A small, mature Anglican congregation in Virginia’s beautiful Shenandoah Valley needs a new vicar… A shepherd to care for the flock and to lead us as we grow in size, in spirit and in our appeal to different ages and ethnicities across our community.
The Anglican Church of the Valley was formed in 2006 by 11 local men and women seeking an orthodox, scripturally faithful church within the Anglican tradition. We have grown slowly over the years – even during COVID. But we know there are many in our wider community who are seeking and we want to respond and bring them the Good News.
Our congregation is loving, faithful, prayerful and generous. Our Christian fellowship is truly meaningful to us. We are seeking leadership that will care for and enhance that faith and fellowship and will help us in a renewed effort to fulfill the promise in our church’s bylaws “to proclaim and demonstrate the good news of God’s kingdom, focused on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, by making and growing disciples and sharing a common life together for the good of Staunton, Waynesboro, Augusta County and the whole world for the Glory of God.”
Our church is in the historic City of Staunton, although our members come as well from the nearby City of Waynesboro and the County of Augusta that surrounds both. It is an area with a rich history; a vibrant art, music and theatrical culture; outstanding public and private education at all levels; abundant restaurants and attractions, and some truly magnificent mountain scenery.
The Anglican Church of the Valley, a church within the ACNA Diocese of the MidAtlantic, was strengthened in its early years by the loving efforts of some remarkable supply clergy. God then twice raised up members of the congregation ordained in other traditions to be Anglican priests. The last of those two, our present part-time Vicar, is now retiring and we have realized that it is time for us to renew our efforts “making and growing disciples” in our community – while we continue the faith and fellowship that have been our strength in years past. We are looking for a full-time Vicar who will shepherd us and help us refresh our vision – and then lead us into it.
If you think you might be the person we seek, please email our search committee at VicarSearch@anglicanchurchofthevalley.org.
